MÄRKLIN W:O:A® EDITIONS 2026
In 1989, Thomas Jensen and Holger Hübner decided during a visit to a pub to organize a festival for rock and metal fans – in their hometown of Wacken, complete with camping facilities. It was entirely privately organized, with the equipment transported on borrowed truck trailers and the musicians performing on homemade stages. In 1990 the first W:O:A® rocked and to this day, the legendary cow skull serves as a reminder of the event location.
In 2026, Wacken Open Air will celebrate its 35th anniversary and, with around 85,000 visitors, has grown into not only one of the largest open-air festivals in Germany. W:O:A® is now also the largest heavy metal festival in the world and a coveted stage for the biggest names in the scene. The success W:O:A® is undoubtedly also due to the famous euphoria of metal fans. They come to Wacken from all over, many by train.
Metal and trains? Exactly: Märklin will be there too, of course. Many visitors will remember our stand and the AC/DC locomotive from last year. This time, we‘re bringing along, among other things, a special carriage for this year‘s open-air festival, a limited-edition locomotive in the anniversary design, and a W:O:A® train in garden railway format from LGB. We‘ll also have a few special W:O:A® editions. But those will only be revealed when the cry goes up in Wacken: Let the show begin!
